In last week’s blog we talked about different ways to cope with dental anxiety and fear.  Adults and children who struggle or avoid going to the dentist can easily fall into a “cycle of avoidance”. Where a person waits until an emergency to go to the dentist. By this time an invasive treatment is usually required, which just reinforces their existing anxiety.

Blue Sky Anesthesia Associates changes all that with a range of treatment options.

There are a few ways to cope with dental anxiety

Coping mechanism

Managing dental fear and anxiety through coping mechanisms can help you relax and feel at ease. Medication can help you focus on something else during the treatment. Listening to music or audiobooks is another way to relax during the procedure. Listening to something can help drown out the sound of the dental equipment.

Bring a friend

Bringing a loved one with you to your appointment can help reduce anxiety. While they may not be able to stay with you during the procedure due to safety precautions, it can still help put your mind at ease.

Consider IV sedation

IV sedation for dentistry has become very popular in the last couple of decades because of the many benefits. Patients who receive IV sedation don’t feel any pain or even remember the procedure when it’s over. A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), will administer the intravenous sedation directly into your hand or arm with a very small needle.

The CRNA will monitor all your vitals, while the dentist performs the treatments. You will still be breathing on your own and able to respond to anything the dentist may ask you.  IV sedation provides total relive from any sensation or anxiety.

At Blue Sky Anesthesia Associates, we are understand dental fear and anxiety. Our team will make your dental experience as comfortable as possible, both emotionally and physically.
