IV Sedation is an excellent solution for dental patients who are nervous or have anxiety about their appointment. It is a practical option for adults and children who have a difficult time sitting still in a dental chair for an extended period of time, have a dental phobia, a resistance to local anesthetic, sensitive teeth, or a strong gag reflex.

Imagine, being in a relaxed state during your dental appointment, with little to no memory of any of the procedure. While IV sedation will make you feel sleepy, you will be able to respond to any questions.

Is IV sedation right for you or your loved one?

Before your dental appointment, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) will have a consultation. This is where you will have a one-on-one conversation about your medical history and what to expect. This will allow the CRNA to get to know you and your concerns allowing them to determine the best-tailored sedation plan for you. This is also a good time for you to ask any questions or go over any concerns.

An experienced CRNA will administer the medication

The day of your appointment, a qualified CRNA will come to your dental office to administer the intravenous sedation according to the American Dental Association guidelines. During your procedure, your vital signs will be continuously monitored. This allows the dentist to concentrate on the treatment. The patient will feel very relaxed and time will seem to pass exceptionally quick.

Bring a chaperon

The nature of the intravenous sedation requires you to have someone drive you home for safety reasons.

What to wear

Wear comfortable and loose fitting clothing to your appointment. This way blood pressure cuffs and monitoring devices can easily be placed.

Condition yourself

Don’t eat or drink for six hours before your procedure. Talk to your CRNA about taking any medications the day of the appointment.
