Laughing gas and a couple of shots isn’t enough for those of us who have fear or anxiety when it comes to going to the dentist. There are a number of reasons why people are nervous and even afraid to go to the dentist, from a traumatic experience, to a disability, special needs, gag reflex or even certain medication.

There are a few things you can do to reduce the anxiety about going to the dentist.

Find a compassionate dental team

We all want a dentist who cares and listens to us, but for those of us who have anxiety, this is particularly important. Everyone in the dental office should be compassionate and  accepting. Offering assurances, making you feel comfortable, and not passing judgment for any anxiety.

For some of us it is the sounds that can make the dental appointment unbearable.  When my hygienist offered me noise cancelling head phones while I watched one of my favorite movies, it made all the difference. My cleaning was over before I even realized it.

Intravenous Sedation: But when it came to more in-depth procedures I needed something more. When the dentist told be that I needed two root canals, I said it would take more than noise cancelling head phones to make that happen. That’s when my dentist suggested IV sedation for my next appointment.

The most effective and safest way to have hospital level sedation brought to your dental office is with a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, CRNA.

IV sedation using an individually tailored combination of medications that are selected based on your individual needs. If you are anxious and unable to have the IV placed without some form of sedation, we will have your breath oxygen mixed with a relaxing gas called nitrous oxide.

Once you are relaxed and your IV is placed, you will be given medication through the IV that will place you in a restful dream-like state of sleep.  During your procedure we give you medication through the IV to help decrease pain, inflammation, and nausea for approximately four or more hours after you leave the office. Upon waking from your relaxed dream-like state you will have no recollection of your dental procedure and minimal to no discomfort.

At Blue Sky Solutions we bring the best sedation care to the top rated dentist throughout New Hampshire.
