As a parent of a child with down syndrome, I know how difficult a simple dentist appointment can be! The fact is, most children with Down syndrome have hypotonia, or a reduced muscle tone. This affects the muscles in the mouth and causes a host of problems. Contributing to an open bite, an imbalance of forces on the teeth, a reduced level of efficient chewing, and less natural teeth cleaning. This can make daily brushing and flossing a real chore, and those necessary trips to the dentist almost impossible!

Unfortunately, taking my daughter to the dentist is very challenging. Not just for me, but for the dentist and nurses. She is very timid and is very afraid of the all the dental tools, lights, and the whole appointment is traumatic for her.

Since I recently moved to New Hampshire, I didn’t know where to turn for help. That is when a friend told me about sedation dentistry. She explained it was a safe and comfortable way get my daughter the oral healthy care she needed.

She explained her son had a difficult time sitting for long periods of time and has a fear of the dentist. That’s when she called Blue Sky Solutions.

A licensed and certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), Dwayne Thibeault, understood her hesitation about sedating her child for a dental procedure. He was able to answer all her questions and put her mind at ease.  He also encouraged her to call him any time with any questions or concerns before the appointment.

With over 20 years of experience, they brought hospital level sedation to my dental office. He tailored my son’s sedation level to his specific needs, monitored every breath and heartbeat during the procedure, and he even called me later that evening to see how we were doing.

It was such a good experience for her and her son, that my daughter is now a patient of Blue Sky Solutions. She finally has been able to get all the dental work she needed.
