With modern dentistry, having healthy teeth, gums, and a beautiful smile is easier than ever! IV sedation enable adults and children to painlessly undergo extensive treatments.
Understanding IV Sedation for Dentistry
The advantage of IV sedation for dental work is to make the patient feel less anxious and comfortable while sitting in the dental chair.
That dread you feel when thinking about going to the dentist is diminished, especially when you have oral surgeries or extensive dental procedures planned.
Before your dental appointment, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) will have a consultation. This is where you will have a one-on-one conversation about your medical history and what to expect. This will allow the CRNA to get to know you and your concerns allowing them to determine the best-tailored sedation plan for you. This is also a good time for you to ask any questions or go over any concerns.
The day of your appointment, a qualified CRNA will come to your dental office to administer the intravenous sedation according to the American Dental Association guidelines. During your procedure, your vital signs will be continuously monitored. This allows the dentist to concentrate on the treatment. The patient will feel very relaxed and time will seem to pass exceptionally quick.
Some patient’s think IV sedation will make them unconscious, but this is not the case. While you will feel completely relaxed and may not even remember much of the appointment, but you will remain awake, reducing complications associated with the lung or heart
