Last week’s blog we talked about why IV sedation for dental work has become so popular, the benefits keep coming.

Multiple Procedures

IV sedation makes it easy to catch up on years of missed dental appointments.  Sitting in a dental chair for hours can easily be overwhelming, the fatigue and pain. With IV sedation, you won’t even realize how much time has gone by.

“The drugs used for IV sedation produce either partial or full memory loss (amnesia) for the period of time when the drug first kicks in until it wears off. As a result, time will appear to pass very quickly and you will not recall much of what happened. Many people remember nothing at all. So it may, indeed, appear as if you were “asleep” during the procedure,” Dental Fear Central.

Disabilities and Special Needs

If you or a loved one has special needs or a disability, you know how difficult a trip to the dentist can be. IV sedation has become a game changer for so many of us.

Make Safety a Priority

The American Society of Anesthesiologists suggests, the dentist should have a separate “a qualified individual”, to do the sedation and to monitor both the vital signs and heart rate, because it “reduces risk of adverse events,” said Dr. Jeffrey S. Plagenhoef, the society’s president.

The anesthesiologists’ society strongly recommends a qualified anesthesia provider for any dentistry using an IV. The fact is, instead of having the dentist do both the IV sedation and the procedure,  a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, CRNA, will make the procedure much safer, for children and adults.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the family at Blue Sky Solutions Anesthesia Associates encourages everyone to join us in learning more about breast cancer and support those who are suffering with the disease.

Though we have made great progress in early detection, cancer treatment and finding a cure, we still have a long way to go.
