Dentists work hard to make every visit pleasant, but still most adults and children dread going. The discomfort and fear often leads to anxiety and missed appointments. Which overtime makes going to the dentist that much more difficult.
For those who have anxiety, a disability, or special needs, having a dental procedure may take more than just local anesthesia or nitrous (laughing gas).
Which is why many dentists throughout New Hampshire have now partnered with Blue Sky Solutions to bring hospital level sedation in their office.
Blue Sky Solutions offers a solution to manage your fear and anxiety, and provide you with the best dental and sedation care available. Simply put, sedation dentistry is a way to minimize and/or eliminate the pain and distress associated with some dental care.
Dwayne Thibeault DNP, ARNP, is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), has over 20 years of experience keeping patients comfortable and safe. Monitored anesthesia care, administered by a separate provider allows your dentist to give their full attention to the treatment and care of the patient.
Dwayne Thibeault will administer the sedation through a small IV. This medication will help relieve any discomfort and pain, while helping you relax. He will also closely monitor your vital signs, heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation. He will stay in the room throughout the entire procedure and for a brief time after.
Advances in today’s medications has made anesthesia in the dentist officer safer than it has ever been. But there is a difference when ic comes to adult and pediatric sedation.
The big difference is the age and size of the pediatric patient. The development and growth of a child is the biggest distinction, both emotionally and physically. The size of a one year old and a 100 pound 13 year old will have very different anesthesia needs. Emotionally, a 4 year old may be fearless when it comes to the IV needle, but a teenager may be more timid.
Dwayne Thibeault takes all this into account, as well as all medical history, medications, allergies, and length of procedure, when determining the best anesthesia.
He is also available for any questions or concerns before and after the procedure. And of course he does a follow up phone call later that day or evening to make sure the patient is doing fine.
