Are you worried about your child’s upcoming dental appointment. Perhaps it has been a while since they have received the oral health care they need. It could be dental anxiety, special needs, gag reflex, or a number of other reasons, keeping your loved one from visiting the dentist.
When is IV sedation recommended for children?
The sight of the instruments, the sound of the drill, pressure and pain, can not only traumatize the child, but make it almost impossible for the dentist to do any type of procedure.
IV sedation relaxes your child so they feel at ease and comfortable. They won’t have trouble sitting in the dental chair, even for lengthy procedures. While they will be able to respond to the dentist, they will have little if any recollection of the dental visit.
Children with a sensitive gag reflex, have difficulty keeping their mouth open for the length of the procedure, trouble sitting still, or have special needs, can make receiving dental treatments difficult. IV sedation is a great option for a child to receive quality dental care without compromising their level of comfort or negative memories associated with the dentist.
How safe is IV sedation for my child
IV sedation has improved significantly over the years. For the safest route, Blue Sky Solutions has an experienced Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to tailor the proper amount of medication to your child. To ensure safety, your Childs vitals will be closely monitored by the nurse while the dentist performs the procedure, blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and blood oxygen level.
“IV sedation, also known as conscious sedation, is a sort of middle ground and it doesn’t fully put you to sleep. It does make you less aware of what is going on around you during your procedure or treatment,” Colgate.
At Blue Sky Solutions we do everything to make your child’s visit to the dentist a positive experience. Our experience is geared toward the unique emotional and physical needs of the patient.
